Patriotic Elephants

I'm surrounded by elephants adorned with stars and stripes. The Republican National Convention has hit the Mall of America and all the press is wearing Qwest lanyards with the GOP logo. It's nice for me, they are an easy mark. And they seem ready to buy. Wish me luck!

Goal update

Hey group. I realized that I haven't updated anyone on my goals, so here goes:

I'm still at about the same weight and body fat. I have been swimming many days a week, so I am thinking that my aerobic activity will soon show improvement.

I've been climbing at least once a week, but I plateaued, and quickly. I'm reading a book with training tips in it to help with that.

I've read a couple of books thus far and am excited to be working on a few right now.
I finished: "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach, "Prayer of the Faithful" by Walter Huffman, HG Wells' "The Time Machine" and I'm now working on "How to Read a Book" by Adler and Van Doren, "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift, and "Tao Te Ching" by Lao Tze.
Note: All of these are being read while I "work." I get more than enough time to read here. And now, I'm updating you all on my goal progress, while I'm "working."

Well, I'm off to read. I've only conversed with 3 customers today. Maybe I'll get another before I leave at 4:00. Happy Labor Day!

Reflections

I sit in a busy mall, all by myself.

I've never realized just how weird it is as a kiosk employee. I've realized why so many jump at every person that walks by, while others become secluded in a book or internet or some other non-work activity. I'm try to stay in the middle and not avoid people with another task or freak people out by harassing them.

While I was living at home, my mom started reading everything in sight, John Grisham, Danielle Steele, pretty much anything. She would read in the living room with the TV on, us asking her questions, pretty distracted. I would marvel at her ability to tune out and in depending on need and still know what was going on in the book.

Reading in a busy mall is giving me that ability.

I kind of like my newly practiced ability. I might soon read in a plane terminal or on the light rail. With these new powers, I may even be able to conquer the State Fair!

Yes, I'm that bored.

Ch-ch-changes!

Here's the short scoop.

Becky and I moved to Bloomington.  No Internet.  I have not been reading my friends' blogs or updating my own.  I think I'll try to add the blogs to Google Reader so I can access them at work.

Yes, I wrote work.

I work at a kiosk at MOA and Burnsville malls.  Not simultaneously, but I alternate between the two.  My schedule is erratic and my alternations are not patterned, but it's OK.  It's called ListenHear, clever huh?  It's a division of Starkey hearing aids.  We sell custom ear mold things like MP3 earbuds, ear plugs, and the like.  I get a lot of swag, but I sit by myself for long periods of time.  I do get to read, but I get bored too.  It's part time, so I'm looking elsewhere too.

I interviewed at a school in North Minneapolis today.  What an experience!  On the way there, I got lost and I was solicited... that's all I will say.  They want me back for a second interview with the director.  I'm excited.  I think it will be good.  It's a new challenge, a GREAT school and it's non-church ministry.  You should check them out at http://www.wiseschool.org.

I don't have much more to say.  Bye.
